Gainful Employment
Nov. 10th, 2010 10:46 pmSo, I got a job. Turns out one of the people I used to work with had something for me at another site. So I'm back to working from home again, which means no more worrying about money for a while. It feels weird because I just sort of started working again. It's almost like slipping on an old pair of shoes.
So far this new job has less unsavory practices than the last one, which I appreciate. Not that last time around was evil or anything, I'm just very picky about the work I do. Essentially I want my job to have a net positive effect on the world - even a small one - so when it dips into the neutral or negative range I get antsy. But my co-workers are nice, I'm familiar with the work, and I don't have to get up early or put on a tie. All in all, no complaints.
At this point I just have to avoid complacency. At my last job I just worked, and then goofed around in my spare time. This time I want to pay better attention to what I do with my day. I'm still working on that one, but I'm hopeful that three years into this job I'll be doing better than I was three years into the last one.
